"I never thought we were dance [music]. I always thought we were like a semi-punk alternative group, with some world music influences. We didn't hit that dance market until 'Cavern.'"
I saw Liquid Liquid live several times in the early 80s and they were a force of nauture. Like nothing else at that time.
Loved this interview. My band NYC band Certain General opened for Liquid Liquid at Hurrah in April '81. It was their 99 Records EP release party. The EP with "Bellhead". I have the poster scan somewhere.
Also played on a bill with them, Konk, and others on an August '81 afternoon in Tompkins Square Park. We partied with them at the Mudd Club afterwards.
And I played at the short lived Cavern as well! Yes, it was dark and there was a balcony of sorts. Only once as it closed soon after.
I forgot about Groupmegroup, amazing song and video. Great interview!
Love

Thanks Phil!
When I saw this post I also immediately thought of the "Pink Panther" theme.
